Why Study Ethics?

Quote text from Dr. Fahmy: "Studying ethics helps us think more clearly about the fundamental values and principles that support ethical judgements of right and wrong, and this helps us make responsible choices."

Beginning in fall 2027, UGA requires all undergraduates, regardless of major, to complete a 3-credit course in ethical reasoning. To support this new requirement, the Philosophy Department has undertaken several initiatives including working with Franklin College to create an Ethics Hub and starting an Ethics Lab. One of our graduate students, Kali Grecia, has also worked hard to track down faculty to answer the question: Why study ethics? Click the link above to get some answers from our very own Dr. Davis and Dr. Schuster.

Be on the lookout for more interviews with our faculty and graduate students on the importance of ethics, coming soon!
