If you are a PhD student without an MA in philosophy, then you must complete at least 45 hours of course work (15 courses). You are required to take at least 10 seminars. In addition, the program of study must include at least 3 hours of Phil 9300 (dissertation writing). If you are a PhD student with an MA in philosophy, then you must take at least 30 hours of course work (10 courses). You are required to take at least 7 seminars. In addition, the program of study must include at least 3 hours of Phil 9300 (dissertation writing). If you entered the PhD program with an MA in a field other than philosophy, then your Advisory Committee will decide whether your minimum course requirement will be the 45 semester hour requirement or the 30 semester hour requirement.
