Studying Philosophy as Preparation for a Law Career

The UGA Department of Philosophy has developed particular curriculum paths for undergraduate students considering future careers in law, including a minor in Law, Ethics, & Philosophy and a Pre-Law Track for philosophy majors.

LSAT statistics show that philosophy students produce some of the highest scores among all majors, coming in second only to physics/math majors. The study of philosophy provides a statistically proven path to success in law school. Many UGA Department of Philosophy alumni have gone on to highly successful careers in law and these alumni are regularly invited to share their experiences and insights with current students.

The study of philosophy requires analytical reasoning, logical reasoning, and reading comprehension—skills all evaluated by the LSAT. Philosophy study provides training in argument presentation via the manipulation of language, a core ability required for the study of law.
