Spring 2025 Graduate Student News & Accomplishments

Five Philosophy graduate students, including three Doctoral and two Master’s students, have successfully completed their degree requirements in recent months. During the Spring semester, PhD candidate Amin Amouhadi defended his dissertation on Time in Aristotle’s Physics, written under the direction of Professor Edward Halper, and Master’s candidate Joshua Track defended his thesis. Master’s candidate Ryne Barry will be defending this summer.

PhD student Kobina O. Korankye recently began coursework towards a Graduate Certificate in International Law organized by the Dean Rusk International Law Center. In March he presented the papers, "Organs in a Box: On the Ethics of Giving Vital Organs As Gifts" at the Georgia Philosophical Society Conference at Augusta University, and "Manipulating Gorin's Theory For a Reason" at the South Carolina Society for Philosophy Conference at University of South Carolina. 

PhD student Peter Nenning was recently awarded Summer 2025 Doctoral Research Assistantship. He also earned the GradTeach Certificate and completed the Support Dawgs Program.

PhD student Shagun Sharma was selected as one of the top 100 UGA Student Employees of the Year. "Shagun is a lively, dedicated, and hardworking teaching assistant. Students appreciate her availability, fairness, knowledge, and flexibility. She is generous with her time and is always right on task whenever needed,” notes PhD candidate Alex Asay, who nominated her for the award. “One can easily see that she is an experienced and confident teacher, especially in her organization, kindness, and wisdom about student needs." Additionally, in March, Sharma presented the paper, “Defacing Racist Monuments: Art and Dialogue” at the 46th Annual Midsouth Philosophy Conference in Memphis, TN.  

PhD student Minxi Xu recently published the paper “Contemporary Fanfiction as Decoupled Participatory Sensemaking” with co-author Christian Kronsted in the journal Contemporary Aesthetics.
