Department of Philosophy graduate students Kobina O. Korankye (PhD student) and Guillermo Zapata (MA student) recently participated in the panel discussion, “Environmental Ethics Reframing Conservation: From Leopold to Climate Justice.” Led by UGA Department of Philosophy professor Christine Cuomo, the panel was part of the Integrative Conservation Conference held at the University of Georgia in February 2024. PhD student & Presidential Fellow Kobina O. Korankye gave an online presentation of the paper, “Private Language By Accident: Implications of Wittgenstein’s Private Language Argument on an Accidentally Private Language” at International Conference "Formal Philosophy 2023" in October, organized by Higher School of Economics in Moscow. In April 2024, he presented "Deepfakes, Not Cheapfakes" at the Emerging Technologies and Social Ethics conference held by University of Tennessee, Knoxville's Philosophy Graduate Student Association. PhD student Peter Nenning was selected for this year's Future Faculty Fellows Program (3FP) supported by the Graduate School and the UGA Center for Teaching and Learning. Nenning also recently co-presented a TA Cafe talk titled "Managing 'Hot Topics': Strategies for Navigating Challenging Conversations in the Classroom"through the Center for Teaching and Learning. The presentation aimed to equip TAs with effective strategies for handling sensitive topics in educational settings. Additionally, Nenning was nominated for the Excellence in Teaching Award and is a recipient of an Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award this year, Winners of these award were celebrated at the CTLs annual Spring Teaching Celebration held in April. PhD student Marissa Willis is also a recipient of an Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award and was recognized at the Center for Teaching and Learning’s 2024 Spring Teaching Celebration. De Yang, a PhD candidate in philosophy and MS student in Artificial Intelligence, presented the paper “Intricate Anomaly Detection in Time Series by Caculating Shift of Non-Gaussianity” at the 2024 IEEE SouthEastCon held in March in Atlanta.
