Spring 2023 Graduate Student News & Accomplishments

Peabody abstract

Dr. Michael Lindquist successfully defended his PhD dissertation, An Exploration of Environmental Values in Outer Space in July 2022, and is now employed as a tenure-track Assistant Professor at Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin. His major professor was Dr Piers Stephens.

Dr. Claire Worthington Mills successfully defended her PhD dissertation, Locating Livestock in Rawls’ Basic Structure: A Novel Approach to Distributive Justice for Farmed Animals in June 2022. She has been appointed as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Cottey College, in the town of Nevada, Missouri, to start in August 2023. Her major professor was Dr Piers Stephens.

Kat O’Brien has been named a 2023 Outstanding Teaching Assistant by the UGA Center for Teaching and Learning. In November 2022, she presented “Charisma in Conservation: Expanding Existing Frameworks to Integrate Non-traditional Envoys” at the Joint Annual Meeting of the Entomological Society of America, the Entomological Society of Canada, and the Entomological Society of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Robert Martin presented “The Indefeasibility of White Ignorance” at the Gordon H. Clark Symposium, hosted by Covenant College (Lookout Mountain, GA) in March 2023. His article, “Trustworthiness as information: Satisfying the Understanding Condition of Valid Consent” has been accepted for publication in Bioethics.

Alex Asay and Marissa (Rissa) Willis participated in “Podcasting the Humanities: Creating Digital Stories for the Public,” the National Humanities Center Virtual Institute for Graduate Students in January 2023.
