Josué Piñeiro Accepts Position at Kennesaw State University

Department of Philosophy PhD candidate Josué Piñeiro has accepted a position as a full time lecturer at Kennesaw State University starting in Fall 2023. His dissertation focuses on epistemic injustice and epistemic resistance with the incorporation of elements of the ethical and the political, his research interests drawing from the philosophy of race, decolonial theory, and feminist philosophy. 

Piñeiro's interest in philosophy and critical thinking was kindled by his parents from a very young age. "My dad and I would spend time discussing theological issues that ended in a playful discussion about the nature of reality, ethics, or knowledge," he recalls.  He grew up in Puerto Rico and moved with his family to the mainland US at the age of 20. He attended University of West Georgia, pursuing physics and psychology before turning to the study of philosophy.

Piñeiro's interests are rooted in his personal experience as a person of color in the US. "Witnessing not only my own encounters but also those of fellow individuals of color being marginalized, tokenized, silenced, and rendered invisible had a profound impact on me," he explains. "My interest grew in exploring the phenomena of epistemic violence and injustice inflicted upon us, as well as the practices of resistance and reparative measures aimed at countering these acts of injustice."
