Mini Ethics Bowl

Ethics Bowl
Peabody Hall
Special Information:
Participants must sign up in advance

The Department of Philosophy hosts a Mini Ethics Bowl competition Saturday, October 22 from 10am to 3pm in conjunction with UGA's Ethics Awareness Week activities. Teams of UGA undergraduates are invited to sign up in advance and will receive a small batch of cases a few days before the event. These cases will consist of ethical dilemmas and complex ethical scenarios. Students will prepare responses and positions on these cases, and at the event itself, will be invited to present their views in a competitive, though non-adversarial, environment.

During each round, each team will take a turn presenting a position on a randomly selected case, while the opposing team will respond with challenges and questions for the presenting team. Then, the opposing team will have a turn presenting on a different, randomly selected case. During each part of the round, judges will ask clarifying and challenging questions, and the presenting team will respond as appropriate. After both teams have had a turn presenting, the judges will confer to determine a winner. Depending on the precise number of registered teams, there will be 2-3 rounds, at the end of which a winner will be crowned.

Coffee and lunch will be provided. Sign up via the Q-code form on the flyer or go to: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdMwFbEDugRbkHXSG8gJDQqYSVukF7gbp2_l0NpEF6KLWbGYw/viewform.
