Hershovitz earned his undergraduate degree in political science and philosophy and a Master's in philosophy from UGA before earning a law degree from Yale and going on to study as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University where he earned a DPhil in law. He served as clerk for Justice Ginsburg in 2006 and is currently Thomas G. and Mabel Long Professor of Law and a professor of philosophy at the University of Michigan where he also directs the Law and Ethics Program. Hershovitz will speak about his career in the legal profession and the relevance of philosophy to that career. And he'll talk about what we can learn from Taylor Swift and popular culture more generally, extending upon thoughts presented in an opinion piece published in the New York Times in 2019.
